EAGLE POINT WOMEN'S GOLF PILOT PROGRAM

The following is a message and request for help from Bruce Lemmerman (the Men's Golf Club).  He is asking our golf club to help in a new program which is  TO DEVELOP A GOLF PROGRAM FOR THE FEMALE STUDENTS AT THE EAGLE POINT HIGH SCHOOL.  There has never been one there so this will be breaking new ground.

NEEDS:  (1) Two or more women golfers to assist Bruce Lemmerman in coaching this pioneer program.  You will need to go through a certification program that can be done online.  We will all share in practice planning, teaching rules and etiquette, strategy, and swing development. (2) Donations of golf equipment suitable for women golfers.  (3)  Any other help that you may want to offer.

TIME FRAME:  (1)  First challenge is to identify prospective players.  Names have been requested from the men's team, neighbors, coaches at the school, etc.  Anyone who has a name of a prospective athlete should either contact the Eagle Point Pro Shop, or Bruce Lemmerman (contact info at end of this message). (2) We will try to have volunteer practices in the fall to develop skills.  (3)  February is the official start of practice; March and April are the tournament months, if we can get enough players to qualify.  If we can find one player who is good enough to play in tournaments we will enter her in the individual portion of the event.

COMMITMENT:  Assistant coaches should be prepared to make practice at least two days a week in the afternoon.  On tournament days, it would be preferable for at least one assistant coach to attend along with Bruce.

Anyone interested in participating in this pilot program, please contact Patrick in the Pro Shop, or Bruce Lemmerman at 541-826-3266 or email blemmerman@hotmail.com.  PLEASE NOTE BRUCE WILL BE GONE MOST OF THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, SO IF INTERESTED IN THIS PROGRAM CONTACT HIM BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1ST OR IN OCTOBOR, OR CONTACT THE PRO SHOP ANYTIME.

OUR GOLFING BUDDIES

As some of you may know, we've missed seeing Dottie Swain and Kay Breithaupt on the golf course. They are having some medical problems and not able to play at this time.  If you have a chance, send them an email or give a call - hopefully they'll be out on the course soon.

And I've been talking to Joyce Sisti who is settled in her new home in California, enjoying the warm sunshine.  She would love to hear from her EP golfing friends - her email is joyce4golf@gmail.com.

TRAVELING WOMEN'S GOLF

The entry form for the next TWG tournament to be held at Reames Golf and Country Club on June 13 has been sent out.  I've put forms on the ladies room bulletin board, and also in our Women's Golf Club Bin located by the front door to the Pro Shop.  If you know someone who may be interested in playing, please take them a form.  TWG is not sending out "hard" copies this year, so if you don't have email, you won't get one.  To be added to the TWG database and receive entry forms via email, contact tina@twggolf.org; she will need Name, address, phone, email address, GHIN, and home course.

THURSDAY POINTS LEAGUE CHANGE

Due to a Southern Oregon Couples Tournament on Thursday, May 19th, the points league's tee time will be moved to 8:00.  Please sign up in the pro shop before the 19th if you want to play.  As Judy said, a good opportunity for you to catch some of the forerunners as they are playing in the tournament!

PRESIDENT'S CUP DATE CHANGE

The dates for the President's Cup have changed to June 7 and June 14.  $5 due to Blyth by June 1st.  Mark your calendars and please change the schedule in the membership book.

2011 MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Message from President Bobbi, the first 2011 membership meeting will be March 1 at the Kick Off Breakfast and we will vote on the by-law changes.  If you can't attend, you can vote by email.  Judy Tonn sent out the proposed new By-Laws to the membership and everyone should have a copy.  If not let Bobbi or Judy know.

GUIDELINES FOR WEEKLY SIGN UP

Patrick will put a sign up sheet in the book each week.  Louise will give him the sheets for the first 4-6 weeks' games.
1.  He will fax the sheet to Louise each week by 4 PM.
2,  We agreed that we would always have some threesomes, (at least three).
3.  If people show up the day of play, Patrick will insert them into one of those threesomes.
4.  Anyone who wants to sign up after 4 PM on the Monday prior to play can still play, but will be inserted into one of the threesomes on Tuesday morning when they show up. If more than three show up, Patrick could start a new foursomes.  Some weeks, because of the number that sign up, there may have to be four threesomes - that may how the math works out, but we will always have a least three. Patrick will have the play sheet prior to opening on Tuesday morning.

KICK OFF BREAKFAST

REMINDER:  Bobbi needs to give Arthur's a headcount very soon for the breakfast, so if you have not already done so, please contact Judy Tonn and let her know if you are coming or not.

EPWGC BLOG

The 2011 board thought a blog would be another way to get info out to you, we can add pictures, the day's play, pretty much anything we want.  I'd appreciate it if from time to time anyone who is a "photographer" would take some pictures of our great golfers, and send to me and I'll add them to the blog.  Anyone familiar with a blog knows how to use the comments section, and how to be a "follower";  if you need help let me know and I can guide you through the process, but it's not necessary at this time.  Hopefully you'll get used to it and like it!  So, this is our first year for an EPWGC blog - let me know what you think.  It's a work in progress.

email:  hjwheeler@earthlink.net or jan.harry.wheeler@gmail.com.

THE BLOG ADDRESS IS http://www.epwgc.blogspot.com/.  Anytime I have updates, I'll have Judy Tonn send you an email, with this address and all you have to do is click on it, and off you go to the site.  Any other time, you can just go to the internet and type in the address above.
